Located at the heart of Anatolia and home to Kastamonu University, the beautiful province of Kastamonu is a safe haven for those that desire to be within the vicinity of grand cities, but avoid all the hubbub and the commotion. It’s panoramic mountains, lush valleys, and emerald beaches have seen the rise and fall of many ancient civilizations; the Hittites, Phrygians, Cimmerians, Lydians, Persians, Pontus, Romans and Byzantines. Thus making it a melting pot of rich cultural assets. A bird eye view of the city reveals one of the most visited tourist attractions; Kastamonu Castle, built during the reign of Kumnenos house of the Byzantine Empire. Furthermore, Kastamonu is among the handful of provinces where the numerous structures of traditional Turkish houses, and late Ottoman architecture have endured, and are available for all to see. The historic fabric of the city is protected as it was designated as an archaeological site, while districts of Araç, Çatalcazeytin and Bozkurt leaves their visitors in awe. Mostly located in Araç, Çatalzeytin and Bozkurt, moors of Kastamonu are rich in terms of vegetation and landscapes, almost packed to the brim with visitors that would like to spend their summer holidays away from cities. The wildlife species in Pınarbaşı district, Valla Canyon, and Ilgarini, the fourth deepest cave in Turkey, wait to be discovered by our students. Kastamonu offers sea tourism and tranquillity together with spectacular beaches located along 170 kilometres of coastline. Ginolu Cove in Çatalzeytin, and Gideros Cove in Cide district are two other notable destinations that are worth seeing. The time not spent studying is passed away in this natural wonder of a city by way of individual or group events, swimming, camping and with other types of outdoors sports.

Kastamonu – Ilgaz – Winter Sports Tourism Centre
Kastamonu is known for its high amount of snowfall during the winter season, thanks to it being nestled between the Küre (İsfendiyar) Mountains to the north, and Ilgaz Mountains to the South. As such, along with the perfect terrain for winter sports, Ilgaz Winter Sports Tourism Centre is a frequently visited place by winter sports enthusiasts.
Location: 40 kilometres away from the city centre, and just 1.5 kilometres shy of the main road that connects Kastamonu to Ankara, its premises mostly reside in the borders of Kastamonu, intruding upon borders of Çankırı Province at certain areas.

Snow Depth: 0.50 – 2.50 mt (average)

Ilgaz Mountains National Park
Location: The national park is located on the Western Black Sea Region, in the provincial borders of Kastamonu and Çankırı.
Transport: The Ankara-Çankırı-Kastamonu state highway passes through the National Park, 40 kilometres off the city centre, and approximately 200 kilometres to Ankara.
